Christmas!

I want to hear your thoughts about Christmas! Take this short survey for fun and tell me your favorite parts of the wonderful holiday!

MCOM

As many of you know, I started this simple blog about my life as an assignment for my business writing class. Because it is the last week of classes, I am going to talk about the class I have done this for. MCOM has been one of the most beneficial classes I have taken at BYU. I loved learning about how to write for the business world so throughout my career I can communicate in a way that my colleagues will appreciate. An advanced writing classes is required so I enjoyed taking this class because of the short and useful assignments. I appreciated that we weren't required to write long research papers and that each assignment would be something that we would do continuously in the business world. My favorite assignments were the resumes and memos. I really enjoyed working on our group project that analyzed the complaints of a company, however I wish it was worth more because we put so much time into it when compared to other assignments. I did like how the project incorporated most of the skills we had learned throughout the semester. My grammar may not be perfect, but it is definitely much better after taking the time to study the specifics. Now I know how to better edit what I write. Overall it has been a great class that taught me all about practical writing skills in the business world.

Thanksgiving!

Such an original topic for the week right? haha I had such a great Thanksgiving that I have to share it...especially because it is the most interesting part of the week. The rest consisted of working ten or eleven hours a day. Painful for my feet, but pleasant for my wallet!

Due to work, I needed to stay here in Utah for Thanksgiving, but I'm glad I did because it worked out so well! I got to go to my cousins house in Cedar Hills which is only about a half hour away. They had a hilarious aunt over with her family and another one of our cousins. My cousins are definitely my favorite girls! I love spending time with them! Before I headed up there I got to Skype with my family so technically still got to see them. haha Gotta love technology!

Thanksgiving dinner was delicious! Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade rolls, green beans, stuffing, jello, and lots of pie! I'm sure I'm missing stuff, but the point it was delicious and so filling! I love full on such great food. After some entertaining stories from Aunt Nancy, we played games then went to the movies. We saw Abduction which was super intense! I liked it. After the movie I decided to head home and skip black Friday this year because I had to be at work at eight in the morning and didn't want to spend money anyway. I enjoyed sleeping. :) Between my shifts Friday I went to the movies again with my cousins to see The Help. It was SO good! I really loved it! I love those kind of stories and it had a few sweet moments and a few funny moments. I was a little late, but so happy I still went!

Basically, I am so blessed that I have such a great family and that some of them live so close! It is a blast to get together with the girls who are all within a couple years of each other. They really are great friends! My aunts and uncles are always nice to have us over, especially for Thanksgiving when they had to make a large dinner! I really appreciated no work, school, or homework on Thanksgiving. It really was a holiday break on that day :)

BYU Basketball

Oh yeah! It is my favorite season of year...BYU basketball season! Our team may not be as good as it was last year, but I love basketball. It is always moving and keeping me entertained. The team is pretty small so I get to know every player on the team. Basketball is overall convenient as well. The court is inside, which is great because we don't have to worry about the bipolar weather in Utah. It always seems that football season starts extremely hot and ends with snow. I prefer being inside to either of those options. The seating is nice as well. I like the first come first serve seating so I can go with my group of friends and get whatever seats I want depending on the time I have available. Basically I just love BYU basketball and I think I should get a jersey to wear to the games! This week was the official start of the season and it was so fun. I don't pretend to know much about how great our team is and won't make it to every game, but it is so fun! We learned all of the new players names and enjoyed watching BYU win. We also got awesome shirts for free! Here is a picture from the game:
Thankfully I have awesome friends who also enjoy going to the basketball games! I'm excited for this season even without our favorite player ever: Jimmer.

Random Thoughts

Looks like another week has rolled around with not much excitement in my life...I'm sure that really makes you want to read this post right? haha

I will just share a couple things I have learned this week.
First, cleaning is much better than studying. Most things are. I have never been one who has enjoyed cleaning, but early in the week I had some extra time. I had already watched the new episode of the show I like and did not want to get ahead on homework due much later that week. I had gotten some more wet wipes for my swiffer so decided to open them up. I got out my laptop and blasted the Michael Buble Christmas album. Confession: I am also in love with Justin Biebers new song Mistletoe. Like him or not that song is catchy and cute! Anyway, with the music playing, I ended up sweeping, mopping (aka swiffering), vacuuming, and getting all my clothes put away. I would say it was a successful day and I actually enjoyed it!

The next thing I learned was that style is that I will abandon all style for warmth. Saturday was a BYU football game that started after seven at night. It is starting to get very chilly, especially outside at night. Kara and I were trying to find anything to keep us warm. I'm weird/really picky about matching perfectly, but I ended up with my tall brown boots, my navy BYU sweatshirt, cream mittens, a purple scarf, and last but not least, a zebra printed fleece headband to keep my ears warm. I'm sure it was a great look! haha

Well that's it for this week. Now that I'm into blogging, I really wish some of my friends or favorite photography blogs had to update their blogs at least once a week! They have interesting blogs. Oh well! Enjoy your week!

Chick Flicks

My roommate and I have a begun watching movies on the weekends after I get back from work. The latest was the Last Song, which is a movie I really like. I hadn't seen it in forever and we were both excited for the cute love story. It was quite darling until (SPOILER ALERT) the dad had cancer and begun to die! A very large portion of the movie is depressing watching him die and the girl isn't even with the hottie! We ended the movie wanting to cry it was so sad and didn't even remember it being a sad movie! Then I remembered the words of my mother. She said once as I was talking about my love for his romantic stories that his movies are all depressing because people always die and often get cancer. I started thinking about it, and she is totally right...but I can't help loving the movies! A Walk to Remember and The Notebook are classics! I also love his more recent stories Dear John and The Last Song. I haven't read the books, but maybe I will someday. Any books you like?

After the movie we also decided that we should do a marathon of chick flicks on Valentines Day! What are your favorite romantic movies? Which ones make you feel and cute and cuddly inside rather than depressed? Good thing we have until February to decide...it's a big decision. haha Maybe you are now inspired to watch your favorite girly movie! Have a great week!

Things I Love

This week I have discovered that my mood can change quite often. Life is not always easy and happy, but I know what will make me happy. When I am stressed at school or had a long day at work I can come home and do something I love which makes me much happier. I'm sure there are things I am forgetting, but here are some things I love:

  1. Water- If I could have one thing to drink for the rest of my life, it would be water. Flavored water (aka Propel) is especially delicious! I get dehydrated easily and with this much hair I get bad headaches, but water is the cure. Plus it is refreshing and has no calories!
  2. Chocolate- What girl doesn't like chocolate!? Ok so I guess that can be said about quite a few things. It is so good! Milk, dark, toffee, or any other kind is a perfect way to finish off the day. I definitely have a sweet tooth. :)
  3. Candles- These darlings are my newest love. They smell lovely and are so romantic! Once I am married I plan on filling my house with candles. Even though now it's just me, I like the mood they set glowing on our bookshelf. Kara (my roommate) may or may not tease me for taking such good care of my candles.
  4. Chick Flicks- I hardly watch any other type of movie! I occasionally bring out a sports movie, but nothing is as great as the butterflies you get after a darling movie. Last night I watched a classic...Pride and Prejudice. It was wonderful, as always.
  5. Driving at night- The other day I was driving home from work after a long night and decided to drive through the canyon. There is something about the dark sky and bending roads. I can blast the songs that make me dance, or play the sweet country songs that make me daydream. Either way, I decided it is therapeutic.
  6. Flowers- They are gorgeous, smell lovely, and can be arranged in so many ways. They are the elegant part of nature. I got to take floral design here at BYU, which has increased my love for flowers. Now I know lots of names and how to arrange the flowers I love.
  7. The first thing I made in floral design was this boutonniere. Zach was such a good sport and wore it on our date so I could get extra credit :)
  8. Coconut- I found the most delicious coconut cake that BYU makes. I already love cake and coconut so I wasn't surprised when I loved it.
  9. Tennis- I had a tennis tournament last week and totally lost, but still loved it. It is so fun and something I will always be able to do. I don't have to get a whole team together because I only need one more person and lots of people play. It is the perfect sport for this time of life and is good exercise.
  10. New music- One of my favorite things is when people post the video of a song they love on facebook. I always love hearing the super cute songs. I recently fell in love with Ben Rector. I had heard of him, but now I have heard his songs. haha
